Beaver Scouts is the first and youngest section in the Scout Movement for 6- to 8-year-olds. As a Beaver, your child will join their Colony in exploring the outdoors, delving into creative crafts, discovering their community, playing games and making friends. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the fun and excitement of camps and sleepovers. It may be the first time they spend a night away from home so it’s a real adventure for them.

After a few weeks of attending Beaver Scouts, your child will be ‘invested’. This is when they promise to do their best and help others. Scouting opens the eyes of young people to a world of extraordinary possibilities.

Earn badges, get active and embrace the challenge!

We believe that young people learn by doing, so our Beaver Scout Programme is bursting at the seams with a magnificent variety of activities, which engage and challenge young people of all abilities.

You can expect your child to get involved in:

  • sleepovers
  • water activities
  • nature walks
  • cooking
  • crafts
  • sports
  • and many more…

Scouting is more than just having fun: Beaver Scouts learn skills that are essential to their personal development and reaching their full potential.

As well as developing a range of practical skills, your child will have the chance to develop skills such as:

  • teamwork
  • problem solving
  • communication
  • and responsibility.

To ensure your child is safe, Leaders adhere to our anti-bullying, equal opportunities, safety and child protection policies. All key policies are available on the Scout Association’s website.

Beaver Scouts take part in activities and learn new skills under the supervision of adult volunteers. They work effectively and safely with young people to deliver the Scout Programme and have access to training to support them in their role.

If you have any questions, please get in touch to put your mind at ease.

Everybody knows that Beavers love badges that get sewn onto the uniform. There are three sorts of achievement badges; activity badges, staged activity badges and challenge awards. Beavers will work towards some of these during their meetings but are also encouraged to work towards badges of their own choice at home so if you are stuck for something to do, have a look at the links for inspiration and encourage your Beaver to bring the evidence of their effort in to show the Leaders and other Beavers.
